Funky Friday Round-Up

Lawdy-dawdy, we likes to pawty! And this week we're pawtying to the sounds of new releases from Leon, Dedy Dread & Mr Bird and some cheeky freebies from Tel Aviv's Shimi Sonic.

Leon - Madfunk

 A rock solid slap bassline underpins the swirling psychedelic synth funk of this release by Leon. As the cover art implies, there's a 60s soundtrack, lounge feel to this track. But don't think it's not dancefloor friendly - with builds and breaks in all the right places, this tune will move some ass.

It comes backed with three remixes - an Old Skool flavour, which focusses more on the slap bassline, a disco-bomb from Trotter and a down-and-dirty Hammond-driven bigbeat rinse from Zamali.

Loads to choose from here, but at the moment the original is doing it for me.

Dedy Dread & Mr Bird - Mia's Big Stuff

Nifty 7" tag-team action from Dedy Dread & Mr Bird up next.

The A-side is Dedy Dread's slinky mash-up of MIA and Jean Knight but for my money, the real fresh action is on the flip, where The Temptations are spliced with Pharrell Williams to seriously groovy effect. Two tracks of pure party action!

Shimi Sonic

New to the scene, and hailing from Tel Aviv, Shimi Sonic has a tonne of tracks, blends and remixes on his Soundcloud page - and loads available for free download.

There's loads to choose from, but Funky Sausage is floating my boat right now - serious old school vibes agwarn!
