New Breakbeat Paradise Recordings E.P dropped today & FREE Track!

Check out the latest release to drop on the highly respected Breakbeat Paradise Recordings label, run by the equally respected artist - Badboe.

BBP Recordings welcomes onboard the Mustbeat Crew for this offering - a group of DJs, musicians, and party promoters from Budapest, who also do graphic design, video and various other art projects.

The group is based on the Listen! record shop, founded in 1998, that
organised parties, promoted DJs and ran a small graphic design studio.

After closing the shop the members created Mustbeat in 2001 to promote their own art, DJ their own music, and build a strong identity as a group.

As a big supporter of the NuFunk/Funky Breaks scene for years is now ready to release their first solo EP "Get This Clear" –  on Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, with a little help from well-established NuFunk artists BadboE, Jayl Funk and Quincy Jointz.

Tracklist:

A. The MustBeat Crew kicks off the EP with the mysterious yet very groovy
original mix of the Get This Clear tune. MC Kemon is bringing the fresh
and spot on lyrical contribution to make this a wicked dancefloor tune.

B. BadboE is dropping the first remix and he is bringing some heavy duty
bass and pumping beats. This remix will fit right in there between those
heavy bassdriven Ghetto Funk tunes that are rockin dancefloors around the
world right now!

C. Jayl Funk never disappoints on a remix and this is no exception. Once
again he is keeping it real to the funk with straight-up funky breaks and
true funky music elements. This remix will leave you very little chance to
sitting still!

D. Quincy Joints returns to BBP after a long absence since doing his
groovy remix on BadboE’s Funkaholic EP. Yet another funky Quincy remix is
in this pack, which manages to keep the mysterious feel of the original
and adding some really danceable grooves.

F-f-f-funky Friday Roundup

Before we begin this week’s Funky Friday Roundup, we at Nufunk.net would like to thank everyone who attended the Boogie Boutique Records launch night with Hayz, Chris Awesome and the label's new signing DJ B-Side at the OrangeRooms in Southampton.  The event celebrated the release of  BB Record's Artist E.P One by B-Side & Russ Cuban, which dropped this week exclusively on Junodownload.  The night was a massive success and the official video and photos of the event will appear on this blog very soon! Check out the NuFunk.net forum for news of other NuFunk nights around the country in the coming weeks.

Anyway, without further ado - on with this week's reviews:

Telephunken - Fire & Dynamite

TELEPHUNKEN - Fire & Dynamite (Front Cover)

To begin this week’s Funky Friday, let’s start with Big Beat revivalists, Telephunken with their brand new E.P. on the legendary Freddy Fresh’s Howlin Records. Full of Latin Hip-Hop and Classic Funk samples, this is sure to get your hips shaking in the club. Especially love Boogaloo Madness - Everybody Ready, Yyyeeeeahhhhh!!!!!!

A-Skillz - Insane Bangers #6

A SKILLZ - Insane Bangers Vol 6 (Front Cover)

Originally released in 2007 and hasn’t aged a day. A-Skillz provides a really amazing Hip-Hop Bass remix of probably the Biggest band of the last 50 years, The Beatles. ‘With You’ takes Al Green and mashes it with Crunk Vocals and Party Sounds while ‘Eat My Shorts’ has nothing to do with Bart Simpson, but takes a classic Ludicrous song and mashes up with Soccer Anthem, ‘Eat My Goal’.

Basement Freaks - Something Freaky

BASEMENT FREAKS - Something Freaky (Front Cover)

Nu-Funk’s favourite One-Man-Band George Fotiadis is back with a fantastic brand new album. A very awesome tribute to 1980s funk artists such as Prince, Cameo and George Clinton. Every single track on this L.P. has something for everybody. Really love ‘Makes Me Wanna Scream’ with Ghetto Bass, Cypress Hill-esque Horse sounds. This is sure to provide more bounce to the ounce! A true star in the making.

Umbo & Bad Monkeys - Come Together

UMBO & BAD MONKEYS - Come Together (Front Cover)

Some very nice Jazzy Grooves with some beautiful female vocals. Also contains some pretty dope remixes too from Philly Blunt, DJ Wood, Jayl Funk, and Mash & Munkee. Highly Recommended and one not to sleep on!

Niles Phillips - Greasy Does It

PHILIPS, Niles - Greasy Does It (Front Cover)

Since 2009, the whole NuFunk scene has really taken off, and this is an example of some of the amazing talent out there. With cues from classic Funk, Big Beat and Hip-Hop - this is a really fun and bouncy release that will cause head bopping for several days and doesn’t resort to the overused cliché samples that many of Niles’ peers use. Also contains great remixes from TimeWarp Inc and Afternoons in Stereo.

Paradise Breaks Vol. 1

VARIOUS - Paradise Breaks Volume One (Front Cover)

NuFunkers will be literally in Paradise when listening to this! Some of the best material from the successful Breakbeat Paradise Recordings label is all compiled in this neat little compilation. Features some of our favourite NuFunk bangers from the past few years including Calagad13’s remix of ‘Work That Sucker’ by Pale The Kid and Phunk Sinatra and Basement Freaks duelling out in ‘Sound Like That’. This release will never age!

The BPA aka Fatboy Slim - Toe Jam (Rory Hoy Rework)

The BPA aka Fatboy Slim - Toe Jam (Rory Hoy Rework) by Rory Hoy
To end today’s Funky Friday Roundup - Here is a remix of Fatboy Slim’s Side Project - The B.P.A. with Dizzie Rascal and David Byrne remixed by our very own Rory Hoy. This has had support from none other than Fatboy Slim himself, who sent Rory a personal E-Mail congratulating him on this great remix.

Take care everybody and watch out for the next Funky Friday Roundup on March 11th , when Boogie Boutique will be returning to Lost Society in Clapham, London with Rory Hoy on the decks alongside residents Hayz and Chris Awesome!

NuFunk.net is proud to be associated with Boogie Boutique Records' launch party at the award winning OrangeRooms in Southampton THIS Friday, February 18th, 2011. The venue has played host to the likes of Groove Armada, Annie Mac, the Scratch Perverts, Stanton Warriors, Mr Scruff, Plump DJs, Krafty Kutz, A.Skillz, Beardyman & Featurecast plus many more top artists.  Now Boogie Boutique Records arrive with their very own NuFunk flavour and three of their artists (Hayz, Chris Awesome & DJ B-Side) that quite simply makes a recipe for one killer party!

The event will celebrate the release of Boogie Boutique Records’ forthcoming release from OrangeRooms resident DJ B-Side & Russ Cuban - Artist EP One, which lands exclusively on Junodownload on 22nd Feb, 2011 and was recently reviewed in the latest edition of iDJ Magazine.

BB Records backed up their promise of delivering “the best NuFunk music to party people everywhere with an appetite for phat, feel-good, funk fuelled sounds”, after smashing the Juno Records Charts with their debut release - Boogie Boutique Vol.1 on Dec 5th, 2010, which topped both the Album Charts for all genres, as well as the Breaks & Electro Charts for 7 consecutive weeks on Juno Records & JunoDownload and has achieved status as the best selling Breaks & Electro Album EVER on the whole of Juno Records!

The night is held in association with NuFunk.net and will be hosted by Boogie Boutique founders Hayz & Chris Awesome, who themselves have tracks signed to Big M Productions, Breakbeat Paradise, Bulabeats, Pig Balls Records and their own label. Funky Friday Roundup (is back!)

Good news NuFunkers - Funky Friday Roundup is back with a bang!

Good news folks - Funky Friday Roundup is back with a bang and will go out fortnightly from here on to keep you posted on the latest releases and news in the world of NuFunk.

Kicking off this week - the freshest label to hit the NuFunk scene - Boogie Boutique Records lands in Southampton on February 18th at the OrangeRooms for a launch party to celebrate their second release reviewed below.
Grab your tickets HERE

Southampton’s hometown hero B-side joins hosts Hayz and Chris Awesome to celebrate the launch of his storming new E.P. The party continues on March 11th when Boogie Boutique returns to London at Lost Society in Clapham - London with special guest and Big Beat revivalist Rory Hoy on the wheels of steel!

Without further ado, here are our picks for this week’s Funky Friday…

Artist EP One - B-Side (BBR002).

Check out B-Side on Soundcloud

Hell yeah, this is the schznit! DJ B-side (& Russ Cuban) provide some of the coolest Nu-Funk you could probably ask for with super dope beats, taking familiar samples and giving them a brand new take to a new audience. Bomb Slippy is a storming re-make of Underworld’s iconic song from the movie ‘Trainspotting’ complete with Apache Breaks, which has appeal for the breaks crowd as well. The tune ‘Jam’ is an old-school banger with cues from several 1980s classics while ‘Renegade Slam’ samples my favourite dance track of all time ‘Renegade Master’ by Wildchild. Strongly Recommended!  Drops on Juno 22nd Feb, 2011!

DJ Format - Mr. DJ

Grab this release

This E.P. is just banger after banger and the title track with Sureshot La Rock (Mr. DJ) harkens back to the incredible “Music For The Mature B-Boy” LP from 2003. For the Big Beat lovers, the B-Side “Here Comes The Dope Pusher” is a really catchy funky breaks track that is sure to bring the dancefloor to another level.

BigM Presents Vol. 9

Buy It Now

BigM from Germany, set up by Mick from the famous duo, Mick & Marc, is one of the best labels for Breaks out there at the moment and this release shows the amazing music made on this label. Funkanomics’ re-working of one of the nation’s favourite Hip-Hop groups ever - Cypress Hill - is probably one of the greatest tunes to come out of the emerging ‘Ghetto Funk’ style and became an instant hit on Soundcloud. Chris Awesome provides a really cool mashup of Funky Breaks and Old School cool (You’re Not Awesome) while Telephunken goes Northern Soul with a modern Nu-Funk feel (25 Kms). Jayl Funk ends the E.P with a catchy 1970s-esque Motown Banger called ‘Don’t Stop Movin’’.

Telephunken E.P.

Go Get It People

Despite being around for a while, it was only in 2010 when the amazing group from Spain - Telephunken - started to emerge big time. If you are waiting for the return of Big Beat, you’ve come to the right place! Here at NuFunk.net we absolutely love the bangers on this E.P. especially the tune ‘Having’ A Good Time’, which harkens back to classic Mint Royale. Watch out for their forthcoming E.P. on Freddy Fresh’s Howlin’ Records too, (Welcome to the Howlin’ Family Boys!) this is sure to be massive!

Itsu Uno - Noise of the B-Boy

Bag it on Juno Now

Ever since he emerged in 2009 with ‘B-Boy Rave for the Ageing Hipster’, Itsu Uno has been providing some of the funkiest of funky breaks since the days of Jadell, DJ Format and Dynamo Productions. Love the 1990s Trip-Hop-esque creep-out that is ’Murder Science Concerto (In bass) complete with horse squeels and orchestral stabs. We hope to see more of him in the future.

Johnny Pluse - Dole Dance

Check it out HERE

Ireland’s Johnny Pluse, who runs the excellent Bulabeats Label, has provided la load of dope tracks recently and this is one of them. A JunoDownload exclusive, this E.P. has remixes from up and coming star DJ B-side and Boogie Boutique Mastermind Hayz, which makes this a really worthwhile package. Look out for his next single, ‘Skanky Bitch’, which has Rory Hoy on remix duties!

Marvin Gaye - Ain’t That Peculiar (Ambassador’s Reconstruct)

Download for FREE
This is absolutely gorgeous and available for free on Soundcloud. The 1960s Soul classic has been reworked into a post-modern electronic Soul masterpiece. This is probably one of the best tracks we've heard all year.   We strongly suggest you check this out!
Marvin Gaye - Aint That Peculiar (Ambassadeurs Reconstruct) by Ambassadeurs

I hope you have enjoyed this week’s Funky Friday best picks and enjoy the weekend with Style!
